Providing Shelter and Hope: A Safe Haven for Vulnerable Children in Mukono

Providing Hope and a Home: The Vital Role of Shelters in Community-Based Child Support
In the heart of Uganda, countless children face the harsh reality of life without a safe place to call home. Poverty, abandonment, and family breakdowns often leave young lives vulnerable—physically, emotionally, and psychologically. For these children, a shelter is more than just a roof over their heads; it is a place of hope, healing, and new beginnings.
At Agim Kisa Children Ministry, we believe every child deserves a safe and loving environment to grow, learn, and thrive. As a passionate Community-Based Organization (CBO) operating in Mukono District, we provide temporary accommodation for forty vulnerable children across two shelters—one in Seeta and the other in Kalagala. These homes offer more than beds—they provide care, meals, access to education, and a nurturing environment where children can regain their sense of dignity and belonging.
Why Shelters Matter
Shelters form a critical component of community child protection systems. They:
- Provide safety from abuse, exploitation, and neglect.
- Support education by offering stability and access to school materials.
- Nurture mental and emotional health through counseling and social support.
- Foster a sense of family, often for the first time in a child's life.
Without these havens, many children would continue to face unimaginable hardships. That’s why we are committed to sustaining and expanding our shelter programs.
